40th Anniversary Celebration and Tea Saturday 7th September 2013 3PM City Church

Over 100 people in the UK are told every day that their sight has irretrievably deteriorated and Torch Fellowship Groups working together with local churches are ideally placed to reach out to the visually impaired especially those with recent sight loss.

Carol and Brian Nokes from Torch headquarters will be talking about some of the initiatives which support this activity:

• the “Moving Forward” weekends held at the Torch Holiday and Retreat Centre in Sussex where newly blind people receive practical information and encouragement
• the Reflections radio programme which highlights how disabled Christians overcome everyday challenges, is broadcast weekly on Premier Christian Radio and Insight Radio, the RNIB national radio station
• TorchTalk which uses the latest teleconferencing technology to enable groups of blind people who are often isolated to have fellowship together and discuss a common theme over the phone.  
• Torch Book Groups which are small groups of people meeting together to discuss a Christian book which is available in accessible formats, and the
• Worship for All facility which will enable churches to produce their newsletters and worship materials conveniently in a variety of print sizes.

You are welcome to bring along visually impaired friends and relatives who would like to learn about what Torch could provide for them.

VENUE ACCESSIBILITY

Level access is available to the church, hall and toilets. If you need assistance, please ask.  Assistance dogs are welcome.

CAR PARKING

Parking at the rear of the church will be reserved for those who have blue badges and who are transporting people with disabilities to the fellowship.

The nearest City Council car park is St. Saviours surface pay and display car park Nearest SatNav : NR3  1SF.

To access the St. Saviours car park from the Norwich Inner Ring Road:  At the roundabout at the eastern end of the flyover, take the Whitefriars exit south towards the Cathedral, turn right onto Fishergate before the river bridge, take the first right onto Blackfriars St, bear left into St. Saviors Lane and turn right into the car park. Once in the car park, drive towards and under the flyover and park behind the shops to the north of the flyover.

On foot use the car park exit nearest the terrace houses north of the flyover and walk the full length of the street behind the shops to the T junction. Turn right onto Cowgate and City Church is on your left.

Charges are £1.20p per hour for up to four hours. Blue badge holders can get an hour’s free parking for every hour you buy.

Buses operating on Magdalen Street on Saturdays include Orange Line (21, 21A and 22). Pink Line (11), Purple Line (36, 37, 38A, 39) and Turquoise Line (13)

Busy weekend coming up for our Torch Fellowship!

Visit us at the Celebrate Norwich and Norfolk Christian Social Action and Services Exhibition

Torch Trust, the Christian charity for the blind is among 40 exhibitors taking part in the annual Celebrate Norwich and Norfolk Exhibition which is being held between 9 and 5 on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th June at the Forum in Norwich.
Members of the local fellowship group will be available to talk about the services that Torch offers including

• the UK library of Christian books and literature in Giant Print, braille and audio,
• Torch Fellowship Groups
• Specialist holidays 
• the international work which reaches into 100 countries and
• the opportunities to volunteer locally and nationally

There's lots of other things happening during the Celebrate event so do come and take a look.
